Nude art helps Mari Gwenllian embrace body confidence
Mari Gwenllian gained confidence when she decided to show her nakedness in her artwork.
The 27-year-old woman stated she got into it after her sister requested some for her new place.
Because of how much it has helped her accept her physical self, she strives to include a wide range of body types in her artwork.
Mari: "I used to have a hard time feeling good about my body, but by some miracle I found the switch that has made me feel better about my body."
Artist Mari, initially from Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, and currently residing in Cardiff, Wales, has said that she portrays different bodies and disabilities in order to ensure that she may communicate optimism, confidence, and awareness.
After posting a picture of a T-shirt reading "llewys hir, nics mawr" (which translates to "length sleeves, huge knicks") in Welsh with an illustration of ladies in their underwear, she attracted attention on social media.
She was anxious because this was her first "worst nightmare" post.
It was "absolutely great" to hear such good responses after it had been sent out.
Having finally come to terms with her body, Mari made the decision to share her newfound confidence with the world by posting body positivity videos on Instagram.
She said, "My ultimate goal is to assist as many people as possible."
Shoned Owens, of Porthmadog, Gwynedd, and the owner of the fake tan firm Tanya Whitebits, is working with Mari to promote body positivity.
Cards with artwork by Mari and body-positive comments by Tanya Whitebits are being released by the duo.
Shoned said she has a responsibility to represent different body types because she is the mother of twin daughters who are growing up in the age of social media and its influence on body image.
The two host Instagram livestreams in which they discuss the value of self-acceptance and why they post the content they do.
Shoned's aunt Bethan's battle with Prader-Willi Syndrome has made self-acceptance and positive body image something she feels strongly about.
Overeating and a "excessive appetite" are symptoms that can lead to serious health problems.

Bethan was bullied because of her size because of her illness.
She was morbidly obese, and a pulmonary embolism caused her untimely death at the age of 34.
She was like a sister to me growing up," Shoned said of the woman.

I'll never forget getting the phone call informing me of her unexpected passing, which left my family and I devastated. She was one in a million, for sure.
To quote her mother: "Bethan is gone but will never be forgotten, and because of this very thing that was such an impediment for Bethan, I am passionate to the core about welcoming and supporting one and all in all walks of life."
